Discovering the Kingdom

What did Jesus mean when He said, “The Kingdom of God is at hand”? The Kingdom of God was at the very heart of Jesus’ message and ministry. He proclaimed it, demonstrated it through healing and deliverance, and invited His followers to live in its reality. In Breakthrough, Derek Morphew traces the story of the Kingdom from the hopes of the Old Testament to their surprising fulfillment in Jesus. He shows how, in Christ, the powers of the future age have broken into the present—providing a biblical framework for understanding the gospel, the cross and resurrection, healing, signs and wonders, revival, mission, evangelism, and everyday Christian life. Clear, deeply biblical, and remarkably practical, Breakthrough has helped generations of Christians understand the theology that shaped the Vineyard movement and recover the Kingdom of God as the central framework of Jesus’ worldview. This expanded fifth edition also explores major theological movements such as Cessationism, Dispensationalism, and Restorationism, making it an essential introduction to Kingdom theology for followers of Jesus, ministry leaders, and anyone wanting to understand more fully what Jesus meant when He proclaimed: “The Kingdom of God has come near.”
