From the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 to the dawn of the Great Awakening, the history of the Christian Church is the story of God’s people carrying forward the mission of Jesus in the world. In this first volume, Bill Jackson traces the development of the church through the early centuries, the rise of Christendom, the medieval world, the Reformation, and the movements that prepared the way for renewal. But this is more than a record of dates, leaders, and events. It is the story of the church continuing the storyline of Scripture. Written through the lens of cosmic conflict, this book invites readers to see history as part of the ongoing struggle between the kingdom of God and the powers of darkness. Through seasons of faithfulness and failure, suffering and renewal, the purposes of God continue to move forward toward the final triumph of Jesus, the One who is both the Lion and the Lamb. For students, pastors, leaders, and thoughtful readers, this volume offers a way to understand church history not merely as the past, but as a living testimony to God’s faithfulness. It helps readers recognize the patterns, struggles, and breakthroughs that have shaped the church’s witness across the centuries.
